Job Description

A nursing assistant responsible for providing routine nursing care in accordance with established policies and procedures and as may be directed by the Charge Nurse, RN Supervisor, Director of Nurses or Administrator, to assure that the highest degree of quality resident care can be maintained at all times.

Qualifications

• Must hold a valid certified nursing assistant certification issued by the California Department of Health
• Must possess a sincere desire to serve the ill, aged and infirm.
• Ability to read, write and speak the English language.
• Possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, and the general public.
• Willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel.
• Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle residents
based on whatever maturity level they are currently functioning.
• Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
• Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, hostile people within the facility.

Reports to (Title): Care Manager
Under the direction of the Program Director, the Home Care Aide (also known as Caregiver) reports to the Care Manager. Home Care Aides, give assistance to people who are sick, injured, mentally or physically disabled, or the elderly and fragile. As a Home Care Aide, you will work in the home and help their clients with daily activities, such as bathing and bathroom functions, feeding, grooming, taking medication, and some housework.
Duties and Responsibilities may include but not limited to:
• Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Companionship and conversation
• housekeeping tasks and meal preparation
• Medication and appointment reminders
• Assistance with grooming and bathing
• Assistance with toileting and incontinence issues
• Alzheimer’s Care
• Errands, shopping, escort to medical appointments.
• Laundry
• Ambulation Assistance: use of walker, cane, gait belt or crutches.
• Transferring: from bed, wheelchair, low chair, turning client in bed.
• Meals: shopping for food, cooking food, following special diets, serving food, feeding clients

Other Duties and Responsibilities:
• Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications Qualifications/Requirements:

EDUCATION
• High School, or GED equivalent preferred
• Registered as a California Home Care Aide
• Successful completion of the 5 hours of entry level training
• Valid proof of the TB clearance
• Successfully clearance of a background check

SELECTION CRITERIA
Home Care employees are selected on the basis of such factors as a sympathetic attitude toward the care of the sick, ability to read, write, and carry out directions, and maturity and ability to deal effectively with the demands of the job. They are closely supervised to ensure their competence in providing care.

CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Agency personnel are expected to participate in appropriate continuing education as may be requested and/or required by California statute. In addition, agency personnel are expected to accept personal responsibility for other educational activities to enhance job related skills and abilities, and must attend mandatory educational programs.

EXPERIENCE/EQUIVALENT TO:
• While prior home care experience is preferred, no prior experience is required.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
• Current driver’s license, good driving record, and reliable transportation
• CPR preferred
• First Aide Preferred

COMPLEXITY:
• The ability to perform highly detailed work with sustained attention and care while providing/obtaining information on numerous inquiries is paramount to success in this position.
